For one magical month I lived and worked on Catalina Island, a small island off the coast of California, part of the Channel Islands. Visiting parts of the island only accessible by foot or boat was the major highlight as we did wild species surveys that led us to all corners of the island. With a friend I backpacked part of the trail that crosses the whole island, where the tiny foxes and bison roam
I eventually accepted a position with AmeriCorps and spent two summers working in Lake Tahoe, still one of my favorite places on earth. Working in Desolation Wilderness changed my life forever
